- Biden is cooperating with the search, according to his lawyer
- The search was pre-arranged
- Biden’s legal team has stated that there is no classified information present at the Rehoboth residence.
The Biden administration is facing yet another challenge as federal agents search the President’s beach house in Rehoboth, Delaware for potentially classified documents. The search is taking place with Biden’s full cooperation and support, according to his lawyer, Bob Bauer.
In a statement, Bauer said, “The Department of Justice (DOJ) is conducting a planned search of the President’s home in Rehoboth, Delaware with his full support and cooperation. We agreed to cooperate with the DOJ’s standard procedures, and we will have further information at the conclusion of the search.”
The search comes amid growing questions about the administration’s transparency and their handling of classified material. Biden’s attorneys have already conducted a search of the beach house and claim there are no classified documents present. However, FBI agents previously searched Biden’s Wilmington home in late January and found classified documents despite the president’s lawyers having conducted their own search.
Biden and his wife, First Lady Jill Biden, frequently use the Rehoboth beach house as a weekend retreat with their pets and grandchildren. The house was purchased for $2.7 million in 2017.
The discovery of classified documents in Biden’s possession has been a recurring issue, with five separate instances of classified material being found in his personal possession, including at his D.C. think tank, the Penn-Biden Center, and in his Wilmington home.
In response to these concerns, Attorney General Merrick Garland has appointed a special counsel to investigate both Donald Trump and Biden’s handling of classified material. The White House and the Justice Department have declined to comment on specific details, citing the ongoing investigation.
